Overview
Scottish Borders Council covers a region in South East Scotland of over 1,800 square miles of some of the most scenic countryside in
Europe with a population of 107,000. It is governed by a unitary Council set up in 1995 following a reorganisation of local government
within Scotland.
The Council's area comprises the four historic counties of Berwickshire, Roxburghshire, Peeblesshire and Selkirkshire. These four
counties contained a number of historic burghs including the famous Borders towns of Eyemouth, Galashiels, Duns, Hawick, Jedburgh,
Kelso, Lauder, Peebles and Selkirk.
